Senior Rockets playoffs start Saturday Feb 15

The North Dundas Senior Rockets Hockey club will start their quest for their 3rd league title in 4 years on Saturday, February 15. After finishing a two game weekend, the Rockets finished their season with 38 points and a record of 19-1. This impressive regular season positioned the Senior squad from Chesterville first overall in the league, clinching home ice advantage for any playoff series that they find themselves in. In a new playoff format, all 16 teams in the Eastern Ontario Super Hockey League (EOSHL) will be playing in
the first round, which consists of the best of 3 games… with the next 3 rounds consisting of the best of 5 games. In previous years, the first placed teams in each division received a bye in round 1. The Rockets finished in first place in the Seaway division and will take on the Glengarry Pipers who finished in 4th position with 9 points. Game #1 is scheduled for Saturday, February 15 in Chesterville, puck drop at 2:00 pm. Game #2 will take place in Alexandrea on February 18 at 8:00pm. During the regular season, the Rockets played the Pipers on 4 occasions and outscored their opponents 35-9 with 4 wins. Although losing 4 games to the Rockets, the Pipers were close on one occasion, taking the game to overtime all but to lose 6-5 in an overtime winner scored by defenceman #10 Connor McCarthy who, in a twist of fate, used to play for the Glengarry Pipers. Game 3 if needed will be in Chesterville, but is yet to be scheduled. The Rockets are on playing for their 3rd league title in 4 years. Last season, the Gananoque Islanders won the title vs the Rockets going the distance in the final round and winning the title in 5 games. As everyone knows, playoff hockey in Chesterville is a special time where the local community gathers together to cheer on their hockey club… the atmosphere in the rink is second to none. This reporter walked the streets asking residence of North Dundas if they were going to the game. Jeff Boyd, a long time business owner in Winchester, stated “I’ve never been to a game but have heard the rink is a buzz during playoff time… I will be going to check it out, guaranteed”.
